Actually, you can just use a rare earth magnet to do the same thing. They're available as discs and spheres and are very cheap. But don't eat 'em.
you also get a level for $6-7 I wouldn't want to experiment.
I keep a rare earth magnet in my tool box anyway, makes it handy to keep loose fasteners together or temporarily magnetize a tool. Be careful though, sometimes you might think you found a nail or screw when it's really an alien spider 'bot.
