Newegg has the Cooler Master RS460-PSARJ3-US 460W ATX12V V2.31 Power Supply for $30 - $10 rebate [Exp 12/18] = $20 with free shipping. Features dual +12V rails and one 4+4 pin for +12V CPU connector.
It would run a ~200W peak system for a few years, lies in between good name brand PSU and generic junk. Primary weakness is probably the capacitors and fan, assuming it's a LQ sleeve bearing model.
I don't mind running junk as long as it doesn't look like junk and runs reasonably well. For a junky power supply this should have a final cost of $10 to be in the realm of a bargain...
BTW, have you tried the new Linux Mint 14? Pretty sweet looking with the Mate user interface. Cinnamon UI isn't bad either...
^ No I haven't. I'm more likely to just keep using older versions of windows because over the years I've accumulated quite a bit of software, and hardware that only has windows drivers.
As far as junky PSU go, I've used some in the past and end up lubing the fan once or twice before some capacitors vent, at which point I scrap it. For a system that's always on or often under load I wouldn't do it but if there's a system you only use occasionally then the system might become obsolete before the PSU wears out, especially if it's an all integrated office box that only uses 140W peak power and usually under 80W.
Does this thing just look like junk or is it really is?

Thanks Dave.
