Use a binder clip and run the cable through metal loops.

PROBLEM?
^ Good idea, but that only works with the (typically) snap together 5/8" or thinner furniture unless you have super-sized binder clips. They won't fit my desk so I have a row of adhesive clips on aluminum plate for weight then rubber feet under it so it doesn't scratch the desk.
The clips are similar to these but I paid about $1 for a 10 or 12 pack at a Dollar Store.
