Mmmm, Craftsman. Nothing like playing whats-|n-the-box or pig-in-a-poke with your good hard-earned cash.

How is this a deal? I like Craftsman, but this is not a high end saw and it's only 10". It's not a sliding saw, so am I missing something? Don't tell me that the laser adds $100 in value :-/

Nope, slapping the SEARS logo on it adds $100. Rolling Eyes

Go to Harbor Freight and get a 10" sliding compound miter saw, without the fancy laser, for $99.99.

Now, if this saw was able to bevel left and right, this would be a good price. It doesn't, so any 10", $100.00 saw from any manufacturer is going to do the same job, plus save you $70.00.

No kidding. I bought a 12" Harbor Freight sliding miter saw for $150 then 15% off...so it was like $127... Then I found the same one used on craigslist for $20 so I bought it and took the HF one back Wink

But the low end (not the Profesisonal) Craftsman stuff is no higher quality than B&D, Ryobi, etc..bacon's usually made by them. Their Profesisonal stuff is often made by Porter Cable, etc so they can be excellent deals...

      This one is not...

The big surprise comes when you need a replacement part; they will stab you big time!

Oh, and you can't get the part anywhere else; only @ Sears!

if you need professional quality, you need to choose other brand, I never see any professional people use Craftsman, they make quality tool for auto only.
      # 3 Harbor Freight only sell very cheap no brand name items.

Craftsman does have some high quality tools. I have a palm sander that is made by Porter Cable. I also have a $140 impact wrench made by Porter Cable also. Both are their Professional lines, though. Those tools can get pretty expensive but are in another class compared to the basic stuff.

Yes Harbor Freight makes some junky stuff, but if you only use it occasionally and/or don't need exact cuts, it's probably fine. I bought the miter saw mainly to do laminate flooring, trim, and quick lumber cuts, so it should do the job.

I would rather have a 12", you can cut floor board with one cut.

Cheaper at our local Sears, which is closing 'cause the mall went out of business. You'll see more of this this summer. Retail is way overbuilt.

link is dead, its taking you to a compound miter saw, not the compound sliding miter. I believe that the craftsman 10" compound slider has a reach of 12" so you may as well just buy a regular 12" compound miter saw.
