$150 for this set?
How about spending under $50 and getting a similar set to this, plus a 32-piece screwdriver set, all covered by a lifetime warranty?
here's the items:
http://bensbargains.net
To get the $48 price, use this 20% off coupon on the wrench set: http://bensbargains.net
and, get the screwdriver set when it's on sale at their upcoming parking lot sale.
I don't think this price is a deal but you cannot compare the quality of the Harbor Freight tools(China) with Craftsman(USA).
If you are looking for tools to last, Craftsman are good tools, if you are looking for tools to last one or two used Harbor Freight is a good alternative sometimes ( some Harbor Freight tools are just plain trash).
I remember I bought a level and a tile cutter in Harbor Freight, both ended in the trash (the tile cutter didn't score the tile enough and the level was not flat but curved on the side and will scratch any painted wall).
#2: if you're looking for tools to last?
All Harbor Freight hand tools have a lifetime warranty. If they ever break or are defective, just stop by the Harbor Freight store and get a replacement.
Somehow I don't think it's going to matter much whether a wrench is from Harbor Freight or Sears. I could see how some people may prefer more expensive cordless drills and items like that, but a hand tool set? A screwdriver is a screwdriver, whether you get 32 of them for $5(on sale at harbor Freight) or 10 of them for $15(craftsman on sale at Sears.com), it's not going to make any real difference.
I had a low quality wrench, after the second stripped bolt I trough it to the trash. I have had Chinese sockets that brake on me etc...
I disagree with you and I think that quality matters, the hassle to go to replace the tool is just not worth it many times.
For some reason some low quality products have the best warranty otherwise they will never sell... look at Hyundai
Just what I want to do... spend 45 minutes driving to HF to exchange a broken $3 wrench. Craftsman tools, while certainly not the best tools under the sun, are made from better materials and machined to a higher standards than HF tools. If you don't mind the chrome plating flaking off, sockets that split or wrenches that spread, then HF tools are just your speed.
#3, you know nothing about tools except for being one. I would be driving to Harbor Freight to replace a tool every single weekend if I used their crap.
A hand tool set has issues of metal quality, tempering, accuracy in sizing. I guess you like to round off nuts, bolts, screw heads, etc, because you saved a few dozen bucks. Over the lifetime of the tool set you may waste hundreds of hours from damaged fasteners or driving to replace tools, wear on the car and gas expense aside.
Medium or better quality tools are a lifetime investment. Make that multiple lifetimes, good tools can be handed down to your children.
It makes a real difference to anyone who is reasonably adept at using hand tools, they realize how low quality the Chinese Harbor Freight quality stuff is, they're not paying more on a whim and a hope and they sure as heck don't want to have to stop a job in the middle to drive to Harbor Freight or have to own a backup set of tools (double the total cost if not more) so they won't have to stop working.
Here's a good one, what if what you are working on is your car, now you have to call a taxi or bum a ride from a neighbor or friend just to go to Harbor Freight? I guess you could ask to borrow a tool from the neighbor or wait for your significant other to show up with their car or take a bus or walk or all kinds of other nonsense
But why? Some things in life are worth the money. Some people are worth the money. Saving time and aggravation is worth the money. Even Cheezewiz is worth the money.
Harbor Freight is a good place to buy really simple things like a hose nozzle or floor mat, but even their drill bits and sandpaper are crap.
