Sears has the Craftsman 50140 2-1/4-ton Floor Jack Set with 2-1/4-ton Jack Stands for $39 - 5% off in cart [Exp 10/20] = $37 with free in-store pickup or $37 shipping. Large caster type wheels provide easy mobility under desired load. The two included jack stands have a maximum lift height of 16-3/4 in.
I bought one of these jacks (w/o stands) pretty cheap, and its pretty cheap. Harbor Freight, not Craftsman quality, but its priced like Harbor Freight, so.
I bought a Craftsman and when I went to use it the place for the handle was crushed from factory. They would not exchange because I did not have the receipt. K-Sears.
It's hard for a jack & stands to go wrong, but craftsman does it. I had a set just like this that was older and none of it worked, the stands wouldn't even work. It was old, but they should last for ever.
What can go wrong with jack stands? If they aren't defective when new, nor overloaded or side loaded (user error) , they should last a couple lifetimes.
Jacks on the other hand, are best used conservatively. Get a beefier jack for a midsized or larger car, truck, etc... something like the following which is also discounted and 5% coupon may work on it too. Though it's only rated for 30% higher weight, it's quite a bit sturdier, http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00950139000P?prdNo=1
Edit: Sale is over on this ^ jack, back at regular price now.
I have the equivalent older version of this, it's now around 20 years old and still has no problems lifting the entire front or rear end of an SUV though about 5 years ago I had to replace a leaking seal and top off the oil in it... minor expense considering the years of service it has provided.

Safety Sam Says: "For lifting heavy objects safely, a cheap jack or jack stands is not the way to go..."

#1, I have had better luck with stuff from harbor freight than craftsman
I've had this set for 3 years or so and haven't had any issues. It's great for basic maintenance (oil change, tire swap, exhaust swap).

Lets just say its an OK jack to keep under the seat of the truck or in the trunk. Better than included jack with most cars
