Just what I need to root the wife's Nook Color.
#1 users say the tip might be too big for circuit board work. Most were doing bigger things. Great reviews though..
Yes it's not only too big a tip but too hot for consumer (scale) electrical, especially electronics work. With a lot of patience and careful monitoring of tip temperature you could do an emergency repair in a pinch but even a lowly $5 Ratshack special would do as well for most small jobs.
I have an "older version" of this type and use it a lot. It was my father's. He was a WWII vet and right after the war they had a VA training program. He signed up for "Radio School". They gave him the iron and some soldering tools. The iron is a Weller WD250 made in Easton PA.
The final exam was to build an AM radio using the tools. I still have the iron and wish I had the radio.
The iron doesn't work too well for soldering SOT 23 packages (LOL). But it is great for power supply wiring in the high current circuits.
