Ummm yeah nothing could possibly go wrong there
It is $20.00 a year, after the first year. If your garage is part of the house, I would use the belt drive opener because it is much quieter.
Any idea if you can register the unit on liftmaster's myq website since they don't charge any yearly fee since this is made by chamberlain (liftmaster) and uses the same parts?
^ I'd guess no, that the problem is the serial number isn't right. It makes me wonder if you could just buy the myq gateway device separate and wire that up to the Craftsman opener to eliminate the fee, as it only costs about $35-50 depending on the seller.

Dave_c, that was my next thought. I purchased two of the craftsman units w/battery backup and will attempt to register with liftmaster and if not I'll try the liftmaster gateway option. Liftmaster used to charge $15/yr after the first year, but now there are no fees. I wonder if Craftsman will eventually get rid of this ridiculous charge.
I noticed the same unit through chamberlain (available at lowes) does not include the gateway device, but is still a 'myq' compatible opener.
