Sears has the Craftsman Digital Multimeter with AC Voltage Detector for $15 with free in-store pickup. Shipping option is $7. Features rubber holster and two spare fuses. Measures AC/DC volts, current and resistance, diode and continuity.
#1, they are owned by Kmart now. I like Sears. Anyway, don't try to get this price in the store. Order it online and go pick it up in the store to save shipping.
Harbor Freight has a coupon for a free 7 function digital multimeter. I always find one in the Sunday paper, either in Parade magazine or with the coupons. I usually buy something cheap like cable ties, razor blades, or a LED flashlight.
The harbor freight meter is the lowest quality junk meter I have ever seen. The sears meter is very basic, minimal functionality but at least not total crap... BUT, if it is free it is worth every penny, might as well get one if you're going there anyway.
Just say no to sears, they'll be bankrupt before you know it

I like sears too! It'll be a shame if they ever go under.
Three cheers for Sears!
#1: I see your point. Who would want to risk $15 on a multimeter from a company that may not be around 10 years from now?
I don't need no stinkin' voltage detector. I just moisten a finger.
wooh! my tongue will be very happy tomorrow when I go and pick up my order!
worth the price just for the voltage detector as mine was $15 at lowe's.
I am going to buy 3 so that Sears won't close.
