If you don't mind bloated Creative drivers this is a good price on a low-midrange sound card, albeit PCI.
Note that the 'egg specs do not list support for Vista or Win7 (or non-Win OS either), you might want to check Creative's site if you had plannend to use these OS.
Might be the cheapest way to get EAX3 for gaming effects?
Looks like it has an output stage that is opamp plus push-pull transistor pairs in the feedback loop, a better setup for driving headphones than typical $20 cards have. With a few 3 cent resistors you could even bias this toward class A output, though it might produce too much heat doing so with the current needed for low-z cans.
Why mention that on a cheap non-audiophile card? Because I wouldn't take a soldering iron to an expensive card, plus cheap cards are fun to mod and mods do improve them (depending on the mod of course).
what i like about this card is that it will fit in a half height slot. i have a few small towers i use as a media center and it is nice to be able to use 7.1 to my receiver.
