Be careful with this purchase. This card is for low profile PCs and will not fit the standard ATX case.
Are you joking? All low profile cards fit into a standard ATX case. Low profile just limits the "width" (and possibly length) of the card. Has nothing to do with the standard pci interface.
FWIW, I have this card and think it makes my 2.1 system boomy. Otherwise, it's a basic card and does basic things well.
No, what he means is that the back bracket is for a low profile case. The bracket won't bolt in to a regular height case.
I have an Antec Minuet case that I use as my MythTV box, and it's low profile - which limited my options for video input (Happauge has a low profile PVR-150, fortunately - but you read the reviews on NewEgg, the number one complaint: "I bought this card and it didn't fit my case" - people did not pay attention to the card height).
Does the SE on the end mean that the CPU has to take over a lot of the sound encoding/decoding tasks?
#2, I'd guess the problem is that your speakers were not designed for a quality card. The technology behind the Audigy is impressive. It's superior to most people's home systems. There are many factors involved in quality, but for the uninitiated, the first thing to check is the S/N ratio (from a reputable company, of course).
I had a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and my Audigy 2 was better in every aspect. The SC did have optical out, but even then my z-560's had some weird noise issues. Soundblaster is the way to go!
