Does this thing to hardware EAX, etc decoding?
#1: no. This is the crippled version of the X-Fi series. It does all its X-Fi and other functions in software.
You can usually get the X-Fi Xtreme Gamer for just a few bucks more, and it has all the hardware X-Fi functionality built in. That's a much better choice.
May as well use onboard audio if you have it instead of this version.
how does creative keep there sound cards so high in price? I don't see the benefit of buying one with so many computers having built in sound cards. Yeah you might get a cleaner sound, no hisss or hicups when the hard-drive works. But even the cheap built in cards have atleast 4 channel sound or better, and many gamers just use headphones
yeah, this thing is terrible. An old audigy would probably be better.
Great deal!
I don't think X-Fi extreme audio is real X-Fi, juss wiki it.
#4 trust me, maybe not with this card but other real X-Fis, it DOES make difference.
it's not that bad, but it is kind of the same concept. It does use the CPU to do all of it's special X-Fi functionality, so it will slow your computer down. However, the very fact that it can do X-Fi stuff makes it way better than onboard sound. Plus, since this is a seperate sound card, it won't have problems with electrical interference, something that onboard sound almost always has.
Since you can get a X-Fi Xtreme gamer for just a little more than this card, there's really no reason to buy the Xtreme audio.
Thanks #2 for the informative post. I was actually thinking of getting this until I read your post. I'll take a look at the Xtreme Gamer one instead.
Do the games have to support x-fi?
How many people really use 7.1?
Wasn't this thing retailing for >200 2 years ago? They had a demo in the DigitalLife expo, and it was fairly amazing .. but I guess it's only for audiophiles out there because I was not willing to pay 200 for a sound card.
I agree with the other comments here. This card just doesn't cut it, get the Gamer instead. I have an old Audigy X-Gamer which still serves me well.
Has anyone seen the gamer version (hardware x-fi) for near this price? I have been looking for some time now and can't find it. I want the auzentech one with x-fi and dolby in one, but it's a bit high and afaik, still doesnt have dobly yet.
thanks
I was tellin this chick down at the car wash I knew someone who thought about buying this card and she was so impressed she blew me on the spot. That was fun but now it hurts when I pee. Any suggestions ?
Stick with the X-Fi Gamer editions. They comes up for sale every couple of months.
im with #5
less people use extra sound card now...
i was told the driver for vista has some bugs..
thanks
well, there hasn't been any sales recently, that I know of, but it was selling for between $50-$60 a little while ago.
