What exactly is the benefit of these sound cards as opposed to the 7.1 I have onboard? Do I need to be an audiophile to notice the difference?
You won't notice any difference whatsoever if you're using the digital out- cos there is'nt any. You may, however notice static or lesser sound quality on onboard sndcards if you're using the analog connections.
This card is a waste at 56, this whole SNR thing is Bull$h1t. This 109 is only on paper and not in practical usage.
Go for a cards that have hardware support Dolby Digital Live or Dts like the Diamond Extremesound 7.1 DDL
#1: in addition to what #2 said, if you play computer games, this card will make a noticeable difference, due to the EAX 5 support.
I ordered one. Here's to hoping it works.
I haven't been able to get 'pass through' 5.1 audio to my receiver for DVDs played via WMC... I thought it would work, because the signal is delivered via the Coax-out from my Asus M2n-e board.
Any suggestions, or should I get an add-on card?
