Man, there are like fifty different X-Fi cards. Is this one of the better ones?
the titanium is the highest end version... the actual card is the "best one" but there is a different package, one tier higher, with a 5.25 inch panel with some front inputs on it.. the panel inside of it comes out to make a 3.5 inch panel which you can stash in a floppy drive hole with a vol knob and some headphone jacks on it.. this is really nice because when you plug headphones in it switches the creative software to go into headphones mode, so you can switch between 5.1 mode and headphones mode in a game without carroting with the software while ingame..
lol.. I said carroting.. heh heh... carrots are cool. heh heh.
wow... 140 for a sound card.. must be the same rodeo cowboy who pay a premium for monster cable..
any decent sound card which can provide discrete channels or spdif is all you need. I'd rather put the money toward a decent receiver, and speakers (not computer speakers but real speakers)
you don't even have to buy super premium stuff to get sound that far and away eclipses anything from a soundcard paired to a (fill in premium pc speaker setup here) can produce.
I remember when the klipsch pc speakers were "amazing" - all i had to do was turn up my onkyo receiver with middle-range polk speakers, and the difference in bass, clarity, and overall "depth" of surround was immediately apparent. I've since upgraded, but its really not hard to make a great sound setup for your pc... then again i haven't been 16 in a long time, living in a single room in my parents house.. so if you're tight for space, you might have no other choice.
#4 you are 99% right.
Yes, all soundcard with spdif sound exactly the same.. but there are a few who provide other things like EAX 5.0 support. While EAX 5.0 is a load of B.S, it is indeed something, rather than nothing. Well, eax and the supposedly high levels of SNR are total marketing B.S, something like what Bose does.
Personally I would'nt pay $140 for this card. I bought my Extreme sound DDL for $18 used on ebay and I'm happy with it, it has more features than this one like Dolby digital live, which lets me play games with surround sound via optical out. A lot of people don't know that this xfi can't do that.
Ha! Good point #4. Only suckers buy Monster cables. That's why I only buy Münster cables. Twice the price of Monster cables but 3 times the quality!
I guess if you have the room to install real audio equipment, then yes, all you need is a digital out... when I had my man cave that was an option, but I don't have room for that now so I got a nice sound card..
not worth it.
buy a Edimensional AudioFX 5.1 and you will have WAY better sound than these crappers even with onboard sound. You also get rumble (if you care for it, but it can distort sound)

beats even steelseries. Microphone is the clearest thing people have ever heard per anyone that's heard this on TS/Vent too.
How are they on latency?
According to reviews this isn't a good headset so #8 is obviously marketing something that he is trying to sell..
creative wants an arm and leg for their sound cards, they are quality, but at a time when the economy is down, you would think they would lower prices.
