Creative.com has the refurbished Creative Xmod USB Sound Device for $20 + $5 shipping = $25 shipped. "It restores details and vibrance your music and movies lost during compression, making them richer and fuller." Compatible with both PCs and Macs and requires no software installation. Here's a crazy article about it. [BizRate]

Can't go wrong with this device! Used this when one of my mame setups lost its on-board sound. Since the system was in Chinese windows and locked down I could not add a new sound card in and add drivers for it. This thing plugged right into the USB port and I once again had sound. SWEET!

I'm totally dubious about this. The claims are on the scale of Sham Wow.

This makes about as much sense as ripping a CD (wave format) to a 64Kbs mp3, and then hoping that (miraculously) the lost sound detail will be restored. You can't squeeze blood (or was it water?) from a stone.

IT'S BACK!!!! I've been waiting for this to go back on sale forever. This thing regularly goes for $40-$60 anywhere else (fleabay, craigslist google shopping etc.). Thanks Ben.

Guess you have to hear it to believe it huh?

Seems like the line of blaster live cards could do the same dsp functions, no?

Fixes my sound problems and gets up almost every drop of soda spilled on my carpet.

I thought the saying was "you can't squeeze lemonade from a stone".

Creative sound cards (in general) Good! This thing.... gimmicky and almost useless. Cheap enough I guess if you want to learn the hard way. Learn how to rip correctly, or find stuff correctly, and use good sound cards and the like... then you won't need to buy things like this, that are marketed to unaware consumers, who need every product to be magically amazing, but somehow cheapish! Oh and sham wow is kinda cool... friend got them for me.... as a goof, and I love em! I can't stop myself from pouring soda on things and trying to suck it up with em. go buy shamwow instead of this.

It does sound like mumbo jumbo, but whatever it is it works great. Vastly improved the separation and detail of my OB audio, plus it's usb so you can use it on all your pc's.
