Frys.com has the Crucial 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Desktop Memory for $40 - $20 rebate [Exp 5/27] + $5 shipping = $25 shipped. A good upgrade for those older systems that take standard PC-3200 DDR memory. [BizRate]

The rebate is good for only one (1) module per household. Still, even with only one rebate allowed, it's $30 cheaper than buying directly from Crucial, eh?

yeah, but nobody really buys from Crucial if factoring for price since they're almost always a little higher than what you'd find at Newegg et al.

    According to Crucial's product page,
    http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT12864Z40B
it's a low bin CAS3 part, nothing to get excited about though if buying PC3200 at this late date maybe CAS doesn't matter so much as just getting it over with so you can get the last bit of life out of the old system before moving on... though I suppose $25 for a memory module is a heck of a lot cheaper than board/cpu/sink/video combo, and there's so many DDR(1) boards out there that such a module could come in handy if you'd like to make an old system into a fileserver or whatever.

I remember 2 year ago, I bought 2 PC3200 400mhz paid 37.00 each after 50.00 mail-in rebates got 2 rebates check back.. 25.00 after rebates is alright.. I got over 10 512 PC3200 400mhz laying around.. so using a old board is no problem for me.. I would'nt paid more than 30 buck thou.. I got all my 512 free... from all friends..

Nice for you, ucansee. Some of us don't have friends, whether
for reasons of political or religious beliefs, personal hygiene,
    geography, or performance art.

What good is one 1G stick unless you've already got a 1G stick by itself? I might be in for it if it was 2 512s. Since you can't run 1 or 3 sticks without slowing down the PC, this is worthless for most people.

If you're still running a machine that utilizes DDR1, and are worried about a few milliseconds worth of performance hit by running odd numbers of sticks, then this deal is definitely NOT for you. You should be saving your nickels and dimes for an upgrade to a board that supports a faster processor.
This is a perfectly decent deal for those whose primary use is surfing/e-mail/office apps though.
