24 Hour Fitness will do the shadiest stuff to get you to agree to a long-term contract. In my case, they told me I would only pay a one-time membership fee (no monthly), then secretly wrote a monthly fee on the contract and folded up the contract and stapled it in a small square to a copy of my ID and said that was my temporary ID. Just be sure you read the contract REALLY carefully.
