That's funnny, I work for a company that works with Charter a lot and if you knew what I knew you wouldn't be saying that. I have heard the exact opposite where I live. The things is that although it may all be AT&T your service is technically built by either Pac Bell or SBC, by service was originally Bell South. AT&T is so large that their service and support varies greatly.

#2 yor right to notice that AT&T is using someone elses network. #1 is right to say if you have any peformace problems ..Good Luck. AT&T is nothing mor than a marketing company .As soon as there customer base gets to big they will sell that part of the business back to the telcom that has the money to buy it. AT&T will not spend a lousy cent to upgrade inprove or help a customer out if they can't mak 200% on that transactionbaconn from this offer or your conscience will be seered with a hot iron.

You also need to have local phone service with AT&T to get this $24.99 offer. If you don't it is $45 a month for their 6MB service.

Just a somewhat-related heads-up: We switched two months ago from pots phone service with Qwest (2 lines, $60/mo) to a VOIP box called "Ooma." You pay about $200 for the box, after that, you pay next to nothing per month for your phone service over the Internet. We dropped our landlines with Qwest and kept a DSL "dry line" for $30/mo.

Our Qwest DSL service has been rock-solid for 4 years now (1.5Mb down, /512 up) and in theory we will break-even on the Ooma box in about 5 months. After that, we pocket $60/mo.

Like Dylan said, the Times They Are A-Changin'.

Ok folks. I use a cable modem and formerly consulted for AT&T and BellSouth.

#3 AT&T is NOT just a marketing company. SBC bought AT&T and the old baby bells (PAC-Bell, BellSouth, etc) and changed their name back to AT&T for marketing reasons. AT&T OWNS THOSE NETWORKS, just like they did in 1980, before the break up.

DSL is a complex offering with service highly dependent on many, many factors. Cable modems have just as much complexity and issues ... overall. Both services have different pros and cons and are highly dependent on your local network infrastructure, climate, and support team skills. Just like everyone that does your job isn't as skilled as you are and doesn't have all the latest tools, some technicians simply don't have 30 years of experience with telephone networking or the new DSL2+ equipment and some locations are running 10+ yr old equipment still. System upgrades go to those places where the most money can be made, just like they should. These ARE businesses, after all.

BTW, in some areas, AT&T is the ISP for the cable provider. We're talking BIG cable ISPs.

Att is flexing their monopoly muscle by forcing landline on people. Only they can charge $45 for naked DSL and $45 for DSL AND landline.

Microsoft did this (force Internet Explorer to people using Window OS making Internet Explorer FREE) and MS got a goverment knock on their door.

I dont know how long ATT can get away with this. They lied to law makers by promising $10 naked DSL when acquire BellSouth then put an offer link to their site BUT hiding it very well so no one can see it. When asked about this their CEO said (blantantly lied) the people DIDNT want it so it got push to the back door.

They also promised naked DSL but then charge the same for naked DSL and DSL/landline. This is a BIG Corporation and it lies left and right. I dont know how it can be trusted-prob. it just got too much money for lobbying Washing DC.

Watch out for AT&T either adding or allowing third parties to add services to your account and then act all innocent when you ask them about it. Be advised to check your phone bill every month, because they will slip it in on you.
