$90 from Newegg after rebate. much better deal!
haha...I was just about to post it also
.
#1 & #2, do you have this NAS and how has it been working out? I've been looking for a NAS deal. Thinking about this or the 323. TIA.
How well does the gigabit ethernet work on this puppy? I just started laying down new cables at the house and was thinking about a central media storage device, It would be easier to use a NAS drive, but I"m nout sure about speed. Any input?
#4, check out the review of this on smallnetbuilder: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/content/view/30521/75/
They have speed tests.
I have the DNS-323 and no complaints at all. iTunes server that works with multiple computers, media streaming that works with the PS3. I run nightly backups from multiple computers and haven't had the slightest issue.
Thanks #6. The only features missing in the downgrade to the 321 are no USB for print serving and no bittorrent. However, the hardware is quite different (as are the firmwares). The 323 is much more $$ tho, but might be worth it.
I've been using my 323 for over a year and no complaints either, it's kick-ass reliable. Anybody has any feedback on the 4-drive 324?
I'm with #6, I have the DNS-323 and have no complaints. I run nightly/weekly backups over the network and use wireless audio streaming to a PS3 and no issues.
Easy to configure and reliable.
I also run a DNS-323 without any problems (only 2 months old though).
I have the 321 and as the others have said, zero complaints.
323 user here - same as above, no complaints whatsoever
Have owned a 323 for about a year. Great little box. Connected to a basic gig network, file transfer is roughly 17MB/sec when backing up to it. Not fast, but not bad, especially compared to my older Buffalo Link Station, which was a SLOW DOG in every respect.
I just got the 323 and have been using it for a few weeks. Very satisfied with it except...every so often I lose connectivity to the box and then run into a username/password problem when I try to re-map to it. Changing the username on the computer I'm connecting from seems to have resolved the issue (so far). Also, I'm a little concerned about the recovery process if a drive fails (running RAID1). Should that happen, I'm making sure I copy the contents of the remaining good drive over to somewhere safe before proceeding with restoring the box.
If you are in California, your better option is to buy from Amazon.com since shipping is free and no sales tax. NewEgg charges both and Buy.com will charge you tax. So with Amazon the final cost will be just $100.20 after rebate, which is better than the remaining two.
I also looked at these two (321 & 323) and decided to go with 321 since it's missing only the usb print port. I thought additional $50 for printer port is not worth which in any case of no use to me... If your criteria does not include bittorrent & usb-print-server, I think 321 is better option if you are looking for just a reliable NAS.
For those with the 321, what do you use for backing up? I used Syncback Freeware for the first time and setup a backup of one of my data drives. After it was done, I noticed that all of the folders on my source drive were turned into hidden folders. Has anyone else experienced this?
I have WinXP, SP2
yes. this is indeed cheap..but talking about NAS, I would strongly recommend you guys for HP Media Vault Mv2120. the prices is still a bit above $200, but HP had deal couple weeks ago that was going around $170.
check out the reviews and its sepc.
Guys, any recommendation for the the HDs? I do not want to go for those 7200rpm fast HDs because of the heat and noise; thinking of those green / 5400rpm HDs! Any comments?
If you need just NAS for 2 drives max then go with 321.
If you you want to expand the NAS with additional drives (through USB) or additional software (like ffp and optware) then pay $50 more for 323.
You can put ffp on 321 but not everything compiled for 323 will work for 321 (g optware not compatible with 321 libraries).
BTW 321 has slower CPU then 323 (400 vs 500MHz)
I wish I learned this before I bouth 321.
This NAS is choice. The best value, bar none, for casual data storage purposes. Mirror RAID and you have a functional, sufficiently fast centralized storage solution. Highly recommended.
