iCraveit.com has the D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router for $55 + shipping. Shipping is about $7 - $10 depending on location. It delivers up to 14x faster speeds and 6x farther range than 802.11g, with a 4-port 10/100/1000 Gigabit switch that connects Gigabit wired devices. [Review]

The latest firmwares are screwy and can not be downgraded. D-Link really screwed up a great router with the last few revisions of firmware.

#7, that is not true. They released a new firmware version that IS downgradable. Stop spreading bad information. I bought mine recertified for $45 and have had no problems.

Mine just went tits up on me a few days ago. Wireless hardware stopped working and the router won't save any new settings. Have to RMA it.

I have this router....but compared to my wrt54g (tomato), my network speed is slower, but internet speed is recognizably faster. when reading files from my server..bacon takes a long time to accesses server folders. Anyone else have similar problems?

#10, #7 is correct. Check for the D-LINK forums at http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?board=129.0 1.21 is the considered the Last Stable firmware version. Once you upgrade to the 1.3 series, there is no going back to the 1.2 series.

Just put DD-WRT on it and forget about their firmware. Or if you want to stay with D-Link firmware and down grade couldn't you put DD-WRT on first then wouldn't any rev of the D-Link firmware install over DD-WRT since it wouldn't see it as a downgrade?

    @ #17:

As far as I know, DD-WRT and Tomato don't work with the DIR-655.
