Will this work with rotary phones?
too bad it only work with skype.
I have one of these, and it definitely was worth the whole $10. I use it with a portable phone, just for Skype (not for home phone) and it works amazingly well. However, if you need to do anything more than press 1 for english, such as enter an account number, you will need to use your computer's skype keypad. Touch-tones don't pass through this device very well. Be aware that you must dial 001+area code+phone number+# to dial even a US number. Perfect if you have the person on speed dial, or use the skype app on your PC to dial. Also, if you paid for SkypeOut/SkypeIn, the caller ID on the screen will include the country code (001) and will not include the name of the person calling you.
I bought something called the 'Phonebridge' off ebay fpr around $15. This one has the exact same functionality of this d-link without the quirky touch tone problems..
I have never had a day's trouble with it over a year of usage, I would say atleast 200+ minutes each month. The cordless phone attached to this device works like a regular phone, plus it can record phone conversations onto mp3 automatically whenever you start dialing.
Oh man I feel lucky, I got 4 of them online for local pickup when FRY's site had them for only $9 and I will be still able to get one rebate on one of those making it 3 for $9 and one FAR. Anyway, seems to work great.
Anybody who needs something like this not only for Skype, try the USB TelBox it works with BetaMax.
