Newegg has the D-Link DSD-150 10/100Mbps SecureSpot Internet Security Adapter for $10 + $2 shipping = $12 shipped. It provides network protection, firewall protection, virus protection, spyware protection, identity theft protection, pop-up blocker, SPAM blocker, and parental control.

I did not know you could buy security for 12 bucks... how does this thing work?

    ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dsd150/Manual/dsd150_manual_200.zip

Not a bad idea when you think about it. Instead of loading up each PC/laptop w/ individual apps for this purpose, centralize the process and take care of it before it ever reaches them. However, it requires a yearly subscription fee. Not sure what it costs today (the device dates back to 2006), but the manual shows $20 per PC. I'd also be a little concern about on-going support. The firmware hasn't been updated in 2 yrs, and more than most, d-link drops support rather quickly for their devices.

Ugh, just noticed, it requires installation of a thin client application per PC. And it only shows XP and Vista (32 bit) support. As I said, d-link is notorious for dropping support, so I wouldn't expect a change here.

#1 security is free if you know how to do it yourself.

Nice idea but the per PC yearly security fee kills the entire concept.

    D-Link Tech Support:

Customer: Yeah I have this router I just bought & it was working at it just died.

Support: Did you make sure the device was plugged in?

    Customer: Yes.

Support: Did you check the On / Off button.

    Customer: Yes it is on.

Support: Did you try another power adapter?

Customer: Why would I have another power adapter?

Might as well put an app on each PC if/when you can, especially a laptop that may connect outside the target LAN you'd put this on. If you go with something like Peerguardian2 you're also likely to have a much fresher firewall list than from D-Link.
