Reviews said it worked pretty well, but the onscreen interface sucked. Anyone have personal experience with this?
I've been considering one for a while. I hear you need to use something like Twonky or TVersity to make it useful, but now that a cheap home-built HTPC isn't that much more I think I may just go that route instead.
this isn't a window media center extender is it?
you can buy Linksys Media Center Extender at amazon for the same $100. that might be a better alternative.
I have the non-Hd version. i never tried the software that came with it, but i used it with Tversity which has a really nice interface. It works very well with a wired connection. With wireless it plays music nicely, but the video wasn't that great. Although I never got the rebate
how much is the HD one? let me check my grammar and spelling before the self proclaimed English guru busts my chops again.
I have had 2 of these for a few years. They work well, but #2 is right - their software sucks hard. Tversity works well. Note, though, that you can do most of what this does with your XBox

i've had one for 2 or 3 years now and watch all of my tv and movies via the box. i do not use the dlink media sharing software, instead my NAS box has a built in media server (ushare). it also plays content from my PC's using windows media connect. now that i have a newer pc, i will begin using their activeTV software though to get access to things like netflix and hulu. search my other postings -- i've written volumes on this site reviewing this device. i'd give it an 8.5 out of 10 and i'm a very harsh critic. the net-net is that it has some flaws but the coolness-factor of having it be your set-top-box access to all of your media very much outweighs it. oh, on a 802.11g network my video works just fine, although, i've switched to a hard-line because i was wired for it and figured 'why not'. but it did work fine before-hand. (although i was watching standard def tv, not 720p HD.) YMMV.
