NewEgg.com has the D-Link Wireless N Router DIR-615 on sale for $40 + $0 shipping = $40 shipped. Scroll to Combo deals to get the D-Link DWA-642 RangeBooster N Notebook Adapter for free with purchase. It supports a draft 802.11n standard, which may become obsolete if it isn't compatible with the eventual approved standard. A flash upgrade might alleviate that problem.

I have the router, and it works great! Picked up another brand draft-N pci adapter card, and they connected just fine, gave me ~120kb/sec connection, much faster than G speeds.

My question is, if both devices are draft N, will it really matter once they get N standardized? They'll still connect with each other, maybe just not with newer, standardized stuff, right?? Rolling Eyes

120kb/sec (I suspect you mean 120KB/s...) is less than 1mbit, so unless your old router was just incapable of performing at even 802.11B speeds, something else was causing your speed decrease.

I have this router it does a decent job. Most people who complain about routers don't have then set up right. I have the D-Link DWA 130 USB adapter on one of my PC's and it loses conection every couple of days. The router itself only needs to be rebooted about every 6 months. This is a good price if you need the notebook adapter also.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Definitely N speeds, twice as fast as G. Does a great job hooking up to my G adapters as well, and at a great price! Smile

In mid-late 2008, I bought several wireless N routers from the local Staples to try them out. I'm pretty sure one of them was a DIR-615. The biggest downfall of all of the N routers I tried was that they slowed the entire wireless network down to 54Mbps as soon as a wireless G client connected. I don't know if that was a hardware or firmware limitation, though. I can't see anyone being interested in an N router that performed like that unless there was absolutely no chance of any G clients connecting.

I now have an Encore wireless N router and it will happily run at 270Mbps even when my iPhone or G laptop connect to it.
