    Now that I have a PS3, the whole notion of a standalone media extender (DLink, Linksys, etc.) seems silly. Why would I put down $200 (or even $100) for a device that can--at best--do a quarter of what the PS3 can do: no web browser, no Bluray, no games. Why bother? Oh, btw if someone argues that an extender "can handle more video formats"...my workaround is to use Tversity as the server software, which seamlessly converts anything the PS3 doesn't natively play.

    Sorry, but Tversity does not "seamlessly" transcode HD content. Even the fastest PC cannot convert a 1080p mkv on-the-fly without playback issues. And even if it could, the quality degradation after 2 transcodes would make your Blu-ray rip look like it came from a DVD.
    Don't get me wrong, I love Tversity and I use it quite a bit. But when it comes to HD, nothing beats a media center.
