i think the dynamic contrast ratio is 1,000,000:1 on this. pretty cool what local LED dimming can do.

I'm tempted... looks like an awesome monitor.. save electricity bill too. Wonder how is this compared to the Ultrasharp series?

Wow haven't seen this one before. 1,000,000:1 DCR sounds crazy but I wonder if it actually looks any better than the normal dell TN panel displays.

      imo, here are the bad.

      Panel Type:
      TN - Twisted Nematic

      Max Viewing Angle (vertical/horizontal)
      160° (vertical), 170° (horizontal)

where is the component, composite, s-video, display port?

hope they make a led ultrasharp soon.

The lawyer? Read. Global backlight modulation, NOT local. The dynamic spec is generally meaningless marketing BS, but here there is some credibility (though not 10^6:1).

Question in my mind is the reliability of these leds vs. the mature fluorescent backlighting. I'd hate to have some LEDs start croaking right after the 3 year warranty (or uneven brightness aging).

Anybody here have technical info about these concerns (not "the lawyer" or "know-it-all" gas.

LEDs should outlast flourescent light sources at least 10:1 with decent voltage regulation. Don't judge by those cheapie LED flashlights that have NO regulation. One can assume that the presence of a backlight brightness control implies decent regulation here.

True #7 - the TN panel bothers me, too. Saw a 22" Ultrasharp w/IPN panel on Dell Canada website for similar price (while researching this panel). You lose 2", but gain color pallet, get better stand and the usual USB ports.

Dammit! You guys are so difficult. I'm tentatively looking for a 24" deal and every time Ben posts one, the comments made leave me questioning whether or not the deal is a good one. Give me some guidance here, gurus.

#9- since the LEDs age, don't they need some kind of feedback (g VR current -LED's are current, not voltage controlled), don't they need some type of luminance feedback ckt?

I agree about the "should" aka "could", but as you say, this depends on the embodiment. I haven't see one of these take-apart. Am I correct in thinking that there is an array of LEDs behind the LCD and no light piping needed here?

White LEDs may age, but not with any measurable difference in current, so any compensation would have to be manual. They are really blue/uv LEDs with a fluorescent coating that may fade over time. How long depends on quality of the coating and of course that the LEDs are not overdriven (poorly regulated).

IMHO this is aimed at the eco conscious due to it's reduced power consumption. There is probably a premium placed on newer technology as well. Ben posted another Dell 24" lcd for a little less $ that will likely suit you just fine.
