holy smokes, this is a wicked good deal. Just wish I had a time machine to send one back to my self back in 2003 when this was built.
Beware. I bought one of these models (from a different place). Google search DELL Optiplex Bad capacitors. These computers (and some other brands) from this era had a batch of bad capacitors. Dell also had to replace many of these motherboards according to what I've read. Mine only lasted 6 months of light usage. I tested powersupply, swapped the CPU, etc. Finally I inspected the capacitors.
Correct #2. GX 270 is the culprit. Some 260 machines have bad onboard video hardware.
#1 yep.. You need quad cores to browse the web and check email.
I can't tell which model these are from the descriptions. It could be a GX240, 260, or 270. It was the 270 line in particular that had bad capacitor issues, and specifically the SX270 (my office replaced almost all of them). All of our 100+ GX260s were either disposed of, or are still working just fine, but none of them had bad capacitors.
had 2 gx280's with bad capacitors on the motherboards...
kind of looks like an xbox 360
crappy machines!!! watch out for defective art blowing up on you in a week!
Not bad for $80. I bought one like this (HP I believe) for my 4-year old kid and she loves it!
It's an xbox sideways! did the optiplex have red rings of death too?
These things go for $40 used on craigslist, nothing more. Anyone who pays a dime more is either a total novice or has too much money to spend.
It is something that you can give to your grandmother for christmas. Then they can actually see the photos that evrybody took of chrismas morning on thier digital cameras. C'mon Grandma, jump into the the new millenium.
hmmm... Mabey my parent can use it.
It's about as cute as my Dad's first bag phone.
Cheaper than XP pro, seriously.
Google "Surplus Computers reviews" before you buy anything from them.
pass!
Wow.. what a deal! I can finally ditch my Commodore 64 in favor of this M$ Boat Anchor / Door Stop!
