four different E5400s - only two have VT-x. too bad dell doesn't say which one is in this.
According to this VT is supported:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86_virtualization
No thanks. Dell charges $220 to upgrade to 500GB drives, and there's no way the base configuration makes any sense to me without upgrades anyway. I can get there with off the shelf stuff way cheaper and end up with lots of storage.
#1 is right, spec code SLGTK supports VT-x, SLB9V does not, you won't know which one you'll get. This is their cheapest server, a desktop masquerading as a server.
#1 this is for SERVER not gaming machine.
#3 so upgrade the drives yourself.
btw, I emailed Dell to see if I could return the 2G that came w/ my T100 for some sort of credit. As I got 8G from FRYS.com.. Yeah no dice, they sent a nice letter saying 'NO'..
If you need a very basic server this isn't too bad a price but if you're going to upgrade the parts through Dell any at all you'd likely be better off going with the T110 or better yet the T310 for not a huge price increase.
"#1 this is for SERVER not gaming machine."
no $hit.
why would a gaming machine need vt? servers need vt - why run a server bare metal?
W/O hot swap HDD drive, even with server chipset, it not really qualified for Server today. So in case HDD fails- you have to shut down the system to replace HDD ? No hot swap - no online rebuild.Don't even mention redundant power supply... And this like server for last century. You can get a server board and cheap case that will work the same as this unit. Unless you like to pay for Dell Logo on your system.. PASS..
#6, missing the point. If I'm going to upgrade the drives, then why spend the base price for the pair of 160's anyway? I can start from scratch and do better elsewhere. Even Dell has better deals.
$129 for a 250 GB SATA, $569 for a 1TB SATA ... Dell is making up for the discounts in the hard drive prices.
