Thinking about getting one of these cheaper tablets for my father. Just so he can check his email, watch Youtube videos, surf the web and use as a MP3 player. I was thinking something like this or a Samsung Galaxy 4".

How comfortable is he with a touch screen? We got a touchpad during the firesale for my Father-in-law and he likes using it but my Mother-in-law can't stand using the touchscreen and won't use it. Also, does he have good eyesight? The smaller tablets make some things harder to see and you might want to look for something with a larger screen.

He's not tech savy at all but I think I'd be able to get him to be able to check his email and surf the web. His eyesight is good enough for now and I think a bigger screen would be better than a 4" Samsung Galaxy. He'll probably use it as an MP3 player as well, maybe connect it to his car as well.

Easy upgrade (through Dell) to Honeycomb. I don't notice the screen resolution as being as bad as some seem to think it is. GPS is handy. SD card expansion. Battery life isn't great, and the thing seems a little heavy compared to the newer 7" tablets, but I like it well enough.

I was thinking of putting a custom ROM on, setting up his email, WiFi and adding music and seeing how he liked it. If he didn't like it I could always use it myself, either way for $130 it wouldn't be a bad attempt at moving him into the tech age.

I think the custom ICS and JB ROMs have problems with some of the functions - not all of them will even use the WiFi Sad
