as said in prior threads, this thread count is low for a down comforter

Machine washable is a good thing because it can cost $40 or more to dry clean a comforter.

Just use a 400-count thread or higher top sheet between you and the comforter and you will be nice and cozy. Than when it gets nasty, just stick it in the wash machine and save the $40 dry cleaning bill. Buy 2 for the price of dry cleaning and you can rotate them while one is in the washer.

No wonder this is under 40$, 240 Thread Count feels just little better than sand paper.

You should really be using a duvet cover over a down comforter, so the thread count really doesn't matter.

That said, I bought a similar comforter from overstock years ago and it leaked a lot of feathers initially. Maybe a higher threadcount would've contained the feathers better.

is this a "light" comforter? poor quality ones are heavy and it feels like an elephant sitting on you

Check the reviews. It is lightweight. One person complains that they can see sunlight through it (but most people don't try to sleep under the covers even if it is daytime--that's what blinds and curtains are for, right?).

Thread count really doesn't have a huge impact on how soft something feels. Think about jersey tee shirts. They can feel really soft and usually only have a thread count of about 180. Anyway, large items that are machine washable have to be made out of non-stretching material or they wouldn't keep shape and would look lumpy and ugly after a couple washes.

Some people think it is too small, too and suggest king size for a bacon-size bed.
