For just $20 more, you can get the New PS3-slim recently announced with a price drop to $300. Then you've got much more than a blu-ray DVD player.

Does the new PS3 have the same features as this?

Agree with #1. You get updates with PS3. It's virtually future proof.

Yeah but the PS3 is crap. This is a Denon.

This is just an overpriced, mass produced POS.
This Denon will not give you any difference in picture or sound over a $170 Sony.
I agree that the PS3 may be more value for money than this but then people with common sense would buy a 360 and a <$200 blu ray drive.
And yes, I know that this combo exceeds the price of the PS3 by a few bucks.

    IIRC, this one:

    - Doesn't decode lossless audio (requires a compatible receiver)
    - Isn't particularly fast
    - Doesn't have "name brand" upconverting (Faroudja, Reon, Realta, ABT, for example), so probably is no better at upconverting DVDs than your TV

In other words, does nothing special. If you're going to buy a "nice" blu-ray player, the Oppo BD-83 (at $499) is the one to beat. Otherwise, a PS3 or Sony/Panasonic player could do as well as this, just without the brand snobbery.
