This is manufactured by Diehard unit and not very good. I bought one from Sears and the voltage protection failed and it fried the unit . The unit stuck and wouldn't go on early on and had to mess with it to get it working all the time. It is just too delicate, I'd pass on this one. hard workerto the unit it was to replace and it just keeps working without all the fancy electronics.
It does have a 3 year warranty. Did you take it back for a replacement? I know most of these newer chargers will not work if the battery has less than 8 volts in it. That is part of the chargers safety circuity. If the battery is dead or shorted with a bad cell, the charger will not start. If you use an old style charger on a gel cell battery, the battery will fail in a short amount of time due to improper voltage and current rates. The new electronic chargers work at the proper voltage and current rates for gel cell battery' and will not rune the battery like an old charger will.
