After the recent court ruling on Dish infringing on Tivo's patents I wonder what will happen to their DVR's. I've heard it said they could actually have all DVR functionality turned off but I can't see that happening. Dish would license with Tivo before running of their customers.
great point #1
#1, Echostar already rolled out their new software to their DVR's that don't violate Tivo's patents. Supposedly. >.>
In the end, though, there is NO way all those DVR's will lose their functionality.
Notes: Top 100 from Dish Network directly goes for $29.99/mo.
-add $5/mo for each additional receiver.
-add $5.98/mo for DVR fees if you have a DVR.
-as far I know, the 6 months of free HD programming ended Jan. 31. Dish rolled out new promotions for Feb. 1.
-HD programming is an additional $10 or more per month, depending on which HD package you select. These new packages are effective Feb. 1.
-I've had to do installs sold by Allsat before. They're one of the less-reputable retailers out there in my experience.
and it is for new customers only...the ones that have been with them for years are screwed
Bought a DirecTV HD DVR today for $199. Apparently they just dropped the price on the HD21. Monthly service is similar to Dish TV's rates. I didn't get any "new customer" breaks.
Either satellite company is better than cable.
free to air!
#4, call Dish directly and talk to them (the distributors can't do anything for you). If you've been a customer for years, they don't want to lose your business. I did this about a while back and got basically the same deal as the new subscribers were getting.
