sorry dish sucks. they increase thre prices 10% every six monthes. Long live Direct
wow...10% every six months. dang! i must be paying a ton compared to what i started out paying...oh, wait, no i'm not. actually, they have increased prices once since i've had Dish. that's in four years. all tv services suck, not just Dish.
I've had Dish nearly 8 years. I think the price has gone up twice, maybe? And over 8 years the total increase has been less than 20%, and they added in more channels. Admittedly most of the new channels are garbage, but Dish isn't making the content, just delivering it.
If you ever decide to quit Dish they'll never leave you alone. We still get at least 2-3 calls a month asking if we'd like to come back to Dish. We've told them no and to not call us anymore but a week or two later we get another call. If you want to trip them up, when they ask why you left, tell them you don't watch TV anymore. It's obviously not an answer in their customer response manual. There is always a long pause after I say that and a mad scramble to think of what to say next, kinda funny.
Man, I need a TV Service, cable, Direct or Dish? help me out here.
#5, Verizon FIOS if it's in your area.
@ hillsolo
They both have their pros and cons. I am a Dish customer, which has less HD channels, but apparently has a better DVR (just based on reading...)
Personally I only really watch the HD channels, and Dish has a great DishHD package that is $30/mo (excluding fees) and has all of the non-premium HD channels available on Dish.
I do not know how the HD channels that are Direct TV exclusive (USA, Sci-Fi, FX, and some more...) are, but I would suspect that a majority of the programming is just strech-a-vision anyways. I would love to hear whether or not this is true though.
You could also go to sites like CNET.com where they have some comparison of the 2 services (but it might be outdated...)
just my 2 cents...
I have not experience with Dish Network.
I have Directv. They have been the biggest PITA I ever had in my life. Never go for directv. Ask those who already tangled in their loop. They give you many irresistible offers to get you hooked and to get you signed for the contract. You won't see all the offers. My experience is you will get 50% of the initial offer. In my case they replaced my HD-DVR after the first year as the unit had gone bad, and they "automatically" renewed my contract for another two years. In order to have your in their contract all they have to do is to replace their DVR before the contract is over. I am taking them to the state attorney's office to get justice.
Ditto #6.
in the end, they both charge about the same. The worst part is the commitment is now upto 2 years! I just renewed my with dish.
Dish is cheap and directTV alway 10 bucks more expensive, I only pay 19.99/month for American top 60 and Cinemax on the 1 year 99 cent deal
Verizon FIOS SUCKS! FACT!
That won't work, m0f0.
I already enjoy your antics....
Dish = leaving my house in just over another week (end of contract). Will be glad to have them gone.
Thank you so much guys!
HD OTA, baby, it's free, and it already has more crap than anyone would want to watch. Who need 100 more channels of crap? Of course it sucks if you're out in the boonies with no OTA. Try meditating instead.
Details?
Just call DirecTV and threaten to leave to Dish Network. They gave me their HD-DVR (which is the reason I wanted to leave because DirecTV wanted a $299.00 lease) plus they gave me 6 months of HBO and Showtime. Sometimes it's worth 45 minutes of bitching to get what you want
They also gave me that DirecTV magazine, but after the free year of it, they started charging me.... so i called and complained and got 3 more months of Showtime.
Suckers
What a great way to waist a life.
We went from "free" cable to Direct TV after the cable guy asked if we would like to pay for the cable.
Last I heard, you had to have two dishes to get local channels on Dish Network and our Direct service has been trouble free with the exception of maybe half an hour a year during a bad storm.
There is a lot of channel crap that Direct TV counts as something watchable. The best thing that they could give us is a set top box with auto volume control so the ass-hole local stations don't play the commercial twice as loud. And some of the Direct channels are really loud compared to other channels, keep the remote control handy.
