If you are looking for High Def, DirecTV gives you more of that HD goodness than anyone else. They also charge a single DVR fee where as Dish charges you a DVR fee for each DVR. Either one usually beats the pants off cable. YMMV.

So, Dhowse, how long have you been a DirecTV installer?

We just switched from Dish to Directv after buying my 50" plasma for the HD shows, we could not be happier! WAY more HD, no matter what Dish tries to lie to you about!

I agree with #1 about you are better off no matter which you choose, but for HD, you are better off with DirecTV.

DishTV = complete disaster for me. Multiple rebate submissions, but no rebate. The seller told me I got to keep my equipment at the end of my contract (Yes, I know they no longer "sell" equipment, but this was prior to that), and, of course, dish wanted it back or to charge me $300/box. The price for HD when I agreed to the contract was $10/mo, but it was bumped to $20/mo just 4 months into the 18 month contract.

Perhaps the best part was when I went to cancel. The guy apologized for not getting me my rebated, and offered to get me a $10/mo credit for 10 months if I stayed with them. When I told him they had zero credibility with me, and I still wanted to cancel, he transfered me to cancellations - who was happy to offer me a $10/mo credit for *four* months (yes, 6 months less than I had been offered a scant 5 minutes earlier!).

    What a train wreck...

I would take that deal with Directv except it's a 2-year committment, not one.
