Might be fine through Dish Network, but this is through another reseller. Too much fine print. Always dual interests and two sets of fees.

Had Dish for over a year, and wasn't told there would be a 3-6 second delay every time you want to change the channel because of receiver-satellite latency. Apparently nothing can be done about it. Be warned.

If you have costco membership, go to costco and signup at costco for directv, i think they are giving you $50 costco cash card (probably mail in rebate kinda deal), if you sign up with directv for a year (cheapest package that they offered was 29.99 w/ 150 channels).

I put a "kill-a-watt" on a dish pvr box and powered it on. it uses 38watts turned on. Powered off it uses 38watts. wtf? apparently turning it off just turns off that 0.2 watt led bulb in the front. I use 23 watt cfls to save electricity but am expected to piss away 38 watts in off mode? I'd turn it off but it takes ~10 freakin minutes to scan the channels when its turned on. Dish network can go burp themselves. OFF means off. I'm curious to know if directv boxes do the same thing. anyone?

#6, I think it stays on to receive software and security updates. My guess is that DirectTv does the same.

#6, how is it supposed to record your shows if it's... off? The DVR boxes are essentially computers. They need to be on to do their thing.

I have had Dish for years and think it's great. I don't get the channel change lag #3 mentions. Could be that specific receiver. Other than getting knocked out by the weather for short periods a few times a year and being more expensive than it should be I have no complaints. If you like your video on the go the Pocketdish players make it super easy to do. Their DVR's are the best out there. Dual independent outputs without an extra fee is a plus. You can add external hard drives after paying a onetime $5 fee no matter how many DVR's you have. Cable is the worst. DirectTV is best if your into sports packages.
