I found Dish to be the king of bait and switch marketing. My Dad went for them too, and also says once the contract is done, he's done with Dish. I hope others have better experiences.

Lest everything I say about them be negative, I will say that their DVR beats the heck out of Comcasts....

Better deal starting February first. You'll also get a bigger rebate by going through dishstore.net instead of calling Dish directly. The rebate is $50 larger if you preorder by Feb. 1. Here's a link to the deal.

Yes, Dish is known for their crappy Customer service and bait and switch billing. I once stayed with them for more than and hour and half to sort out a billing mess. Finally I reached the "loyalty department" and got what I wanted.

They would like to lock you down with a 2 year contract for any change you make. Honestly the govt should outlaw these kind of service contracts/fees.

Still better than Directv's policy of automatically renewing you to a 2 year contract anytime they perform a service action.
What's that? You didn't know? Read the tiny print on the back of your bill that we know you ignore.

They give your "free" boxes, unless you want HD, then they charge a fortune to you to buy the converter boxes.

You mean people don't want analog? People actually own HD?

Have to say I've had a different experience so far. Great service and a great price. Worlds of difference compared to my days with Comcast.

The govt should outlaw these kind of service contracts/fees? Maybe you should read the contract and not sign on if you don't agree with it??

According to JD Power, DirecTV has a slight edge over Dish. However, AT&T's U-Verse beats them all:

    Except in the "East" category.

You can badmouth Dish all you want but they are pleasure to deal with after having Comcast for several years.

I've been happy with Dish so far. The ViP-622/722 DVR is by far the best non-Tivo box I've come across. So far the service has been decent, the price is great, and the quality is acceptable.
