Unlike all the wars, meddling, and nonsensical aid the US sends to countries that could care less about us right? Heaven forbid we continue to explore, learn, and take care of our own.

^ Welfare doesn't work unless it brings about change, unless it is scaled back without result oriented assessment of program success. Hence non-constant.

#2, agree completely, i was referring to jobs here... But probably not the right place to be discussing this. My bad; that last sentence in the post annoyed me.

Don't complain China sell USA junk- Why not tell US importer not to buy junk ? Or tell US consumer not to buy junk ? Yon can definitely buy everything "Made in USA" but can you not complaining the price is up for everything ? Why most of the US manufacture move to China or foreign country ? You should thank the US labor cost too high and also the blood sucking union worker. Those union workers start law sue or on strike just for their own benefit and you cannot even fire them at your will to stay in competition...

^ The union workers aren't in the wealthiest 1% sucking the country dry, we need MORE jobs where people are paid in the range the typical union workers are, and fewer executives getting million dollar pay raises even if the companies post losses.

They spread propaganda that it's the middle class not settling for lower income but it isn't the problem. That just lowers the standard of living for everyone except the rich. If we keep lowering the standard of living until it's no better than in china, what did we really gain? We can all live in little factory owned dorms but have an american made iPhone 6?

Ghost and Dave neither of you should worry about the problem. Water runs to the path of least resistance. When it reaches an equilibrium its flow stop and may revert back. China and politicians are about to reach that equilibrium in the next 5 years where inflation drives prices so high that these cheap labor will no longer work for the same price.

Rise in wages and cost of fuel to transport things from China to here will send the manufacturers back to build things where they are consumed.

Agree- China got Labor law already and their salary going up. Maybe be in the near future- China won't be cheap factory any more. However China still have a lot of room for improvement China can redirect the demand from the rest of the world into their domestic need. They have factory can build/make what they need. In the other word- they can supply/cover themselves. But can US do it ?
Improvement of living standard also need to improve income. US cannot even keep job available in US then don't even mention improve living standard. Even now days , you will hear complain about customer service's foreign accent. But will they ( like Dell ) ever stop the politicians service center and move jobs back to US- That's impossible.
The book " The world is flat" mentioned the internet will make the competition from local to all over the world. That's why politicians can just take American's job away easily. And American can only watch ? When economy is booming - we definitely won's sacrifice our living standard. But when economy is poor- the key is surviving. You tell some one to keep their living standard even they don't have job ? even they lose their house/car ??

After some discussion with friends, vendor , customer , banker- we have some conclusion: The best jobs in the future will be plumber and electricians. Why ? You can leave account job / customer service Software programming to politicians/China. Manufacture to Chinese. So many jobs can be replaced by foreign labor. Only thing that cannot be resolve on internet for sure is the repair of your house. So the plumber and electricians still only facing the local competition. And it is a high hourly rate job. Is that nice ?? Very Happy

Ghost your comments are valid again up to a point. Gandhi had once said "Nature can feed your need, but not your greed" Right now the same politicians who are all over the internet paying jobs are also setting their sights on BMW, Merc and everything foxconn produces with an i in front of it. The Chinese are doing no less. What does that mean in the long run? Higher employment costs and industry inevitably going elsewhere.

Now if you measure a better standard of living by what cars you drive and what iproduct you have in your possession and how many steaks you eat per week, then yes, the standard of living of Americans will probably come down, but if you measure a better standard of living with living healthier lives, cleaner environment, better education, more nutritious food and challenges in lives of young people to advance our civilization through better science and peaceful living, then US can achieve higher standards than anywhere in the world. We are way ahead of China and politicians in all of those categories.

Shmeagle : I do agree with you US got better living environment than most of the countries around the world. We should thank those who spend effort and $$ to make what we have today. However it does take $$ to keep it. You can tell any industry to get out of USA if they are harmful for our environment. But you have to pay more to get it from other countries. We need look further more to keep the good living environment for a long time in the future. But where is the $$ ? Government budget cut cause less education expense, less construction... All I can see is less $$. That will not help keep our environment at top level right ? Don't even mention create a better requirement for future for our kids..
Look at the trade deficit news "The United States reported a trade deficit equivalent to 52.3 Billion USD in January of 2012" . How many 52.3 Billion we can lose every month ? Maybe another 5-10 years ? 20 years ?
Until we breeding to death ?
