LED will last longer than the rechargeable battery which usually lasts only 2-3 years.

This has 12 LED not 13 it's a typo on thier heading, notice at the bottom it says 12 and you can count them in the photo and see it too, plus Amazon has it listed as 12. Smile I know I know I have to much time.

Incandescents make better spotlights because they have more throw. These type of LED lights are better for things up close.

Yes #6. I suspect you may well need one after all the male visitors you have been entertaining.

Wrong #7, it's his wife that needs the exam after all the male visitors she has been entertaining. I did one but she said she preferred the way the sailors from the sixth fleet did it.

Can this be left on charge or will that ruin the batteries?

#2 has it right, except the real battery life is more like 6-8 mos. Junk alert.

12 sucky LEDs in a light still make it sucky. You can get one quality LED that will perform better than this. check out candle power forums.

Yeah, not a good buy. Just get a similar one that runs on NiMH which are more convenient and replaceable.

False #5, the problem isn't one of LED vs incandescent, it's that they use individual encapsulated LEDs instead of a power LED with a proper parabolic reflector which can make LEDs outshine (with correct reflector or lens also out-throw) incandescents because with whatever battery is used, for the same runtime LEDs are substantially brighter.

The key is it has to be a single power LED, a single point of light around which to design the reflector or else you have to design in several tiny reflectors but these encapsulated LEDs just aren't a narrow beam pattern nor is their casing an optical quality substitute for a real lens.

So an incandescent vs THIS light, you are right, but not with most of the better LED lights on the market.

The battery can last at least 3 years but you have to remember that being SLA, you can't run it down as far as with other batteries chemistry, can't leave it hooked up to their high trickle rate charger after the needed charge period is up (which unless the battery were totally drained which as mentioned above you don't want to do, means you have to disconnect the charger and check voltage periodically to see how far along the charge is, which is a PITA and excessive effort for such a low performance light).

Dorcy does make some decent power LED lights, check their website, though you will get even better (including at same price point) from other brands.

While I can't speak for every model, that is bunk about the Dorcy sealed lead acid batteries lasting 3 years (with use). I know it is bunk because I have purchased similar lights made by Dorcy. I am a PhD Chemical Engineer and know quite a lot about battery chemistries.

Dave C appears to have some great tips and insights about selected things, but the vast generalizations, especially those that are grounded neither by personal experience nor fundamental knowledge, should be viewed with an abundance of caution.

Comic relief. Plus we like bargains too. Wish there were more of them here. Used to be plenty.

    Cheers!

I have to agree with #7. #7 is referring to #6 being on the receiving end of cornholio exams.
