Reviews seem to agree that the brushes come off the spine almost immediately - first use. HomeDepot has a pair of larger brushes much more heavy duty for just under ten bucks. The brush heads are larger but you could probably give one a haircut.
I get this exact same thing from my local dollar store, so not so great a deal! It did work great to unclog hairs from the drain, though.
