Today's completely nerdy dream computer is brought to you by Tiger Direct. They have a ludicrously priced Dream PC Core i7 980X Barebone Kit for $3800 - $30 rebate [Exp 3/31] - $20 rebate [Exp 3/31] - $20 rebate [Exp 3/31] - $30 rebate [Exp 3/16] = $3700 + shipping. Shipping ranges from $40 to $60 depending on location. For such a ridiculous price, you get the following:

  • Intel Core i7 980X Extreme Edition processor, Corsair HW50 cooling
  • 12GB DDR3 memory, 2 Geforce GTX 275 video cards in SLI, Blu Ray, DVD Writer
  • Two Intel X25-M 40GB SSDs in RAID config, one Seagate Barracuda 1TB, EVGA X58 mobo
  • Corsair Obsidian 800D Case, and a Corsair 1000 watt power supply

I think I'd rather have a home theater for this price. If you need to see HD elf boobs in WOW that badly then go for it.

Aside from the processor and SSD drives, I built a better machine for less.

      Mountain Mods Ascension Case: $500
      i7 920 CPU - $199
Asus Rampage 2 Extreme Mobo: $400
      Iwaki Pump $60 (ebay)
      .5" ID Tubing $30 (petra's tech shop)
      2 x evga GTX 295 $900
      2 x Seagate 7200.12 1TB drives in RAID0 $180
      1 x GTO Quad radiator $135
      1 x Danger Den 5.25" reservoir $20
      Compression fittings $60
      1 x NXT fan controller/temp display $50
      1 x DVD-RW SATA drive $25
      1 x Kingwin 1100W Power Supply $200
      12gb Patriot PC-12800 DDR3 $250
      30 x Yate Loon LED fans = $140
      4 x scythe UltraKaze 120mm fans for rad $50

My CPU is overclocked to an even 4.0ghz, and never gets above 45C... grand total = $3199. Better video, MUCH better cooling system, custom case, overclocked to max, and it looks f'ing amazing.

WOW! I think this is the WORST deal of the year that BEN has posted. He has clearly lost it. No longer cares if its a deal or not.

C'mon Ben at least play it off like you care if it looks like a deal or not.

Hey folks! Don't need a lot of smack talk on this deal. Show some love and get Ben some click counts. Therapy is not cheap and Ben needs all he can get to help him back to reality.

Yeah could go for a lot less then the one above. The i7 920 can clock up something sick. Buying the extreme edition of the processors is usually a waste of around $700. Going pro motherboard is never a bad idea. Ram is a bit of overkill going for a very low latency ram is best. SSD intel drives in a raid 0 is really sick speed and then have raptors raided for storage. Just my 2 cents on having a sick, fast, and extremely responsive system like I build. Also do not waste money on junk flashy cases, antec has some great cases with massive cooling. The system is only as good as the weakest item.

@ #7...what, no SSDs? That alone will make TD's "Dream" PC faster!
