This seemed super dirt cheap until I saw them on ebay for $10. Still cheap, but again: strange pricing!
Just out of curiosity what would you use this for? Converting power from a car to use a regular tv?
Apparently this isn't your standard "plug into the cigarette lighter" inverter. As one reviewer on Amazon wrote, "I've done a lot of home wiring but wouldn't tackle this one on my own. This requires some pretty sophisticated work to install it in a vehicle...Wasn't looking for a permanent installation. This doesn't come with any pigtails or such either."

It's not permanent, just that the cables in the back are detachable, where you can hook it up to your cig outlet or your car battery.
Like these, they're as easy to connect as speaker cables.

For future reference, if you had a 20 amp fuse for your cigarette lighter, at 12 V that's only 240 W, so trying to draw just that much would blow your fuse. I think most cigarette lighter fuses are 15 amp though anyway.
As captH mentioned a 1000W/2000W peak inverter can potentially draw more current than most vehicle lighter outlets are fused for. Similarly you'll want low enough gauge wiring to the battery to handle that.
If you factor 1000W @ 80% efficiency that's 1250W input @ ~ 13.2V = 95 Amps. Use 4 gauge or lower wiring (they claim 2 gauge for full load use in the User Guide I linked later in this topic) and connectors rated appropriately as well as the fuse and fuse holder. Little plastic pigtail fuse holders aren't even close to capable of handling 1000W let alone 2000W surges.
That's a conservative estimate though, if those were the operating parameters it is losing 250W as heat and there's no way this unit can last very long with 250W dissipation. Maybe my 80% efficiency figure was wrong and it's 90%, it "might" handle 125W heat ok but that wouldn't change the wiring gauge you need much if any.

I had to call to cancel a couple of orders that had errors.
The Customer service rep said that orders were poring in, but the she could see 35 still on the inventory computer.
So far the two orders I wanted canceled were cancelled and the third (correct one) is hanging in there. (Fingers crossed)
Those of you who managed to get one in your cart before they pulled the page... the code still works (more than one use, don't know about whether it would let you use it more than once if you create an account there), the order will still go through at $3.79 delivered.
Keep in mind, resellerratings reviews suggest that their site does not reflect level of stock so even if they honor this price, they are/were probably out of stock by now.

I bought two, 400 watts Peak Power Inverter 800 watt max. Pay only 5 bucks after 20 mail-in rebates. Can buy up to 2 max.. Got my 40bucks check yesterday.. This is a better deal, No rebates more power less money. Would have scroe one if I wasn't busy this afternoon taking care of business..

^ It is very unlikely that Advance Auto Parts inverter is 400W as claimed. Even if it is 90% efficient, 444W input @ 12V = 37 Amps, higher than any vehicle's lighter outlet fuse and wiring can handle. They would not include a lighter adapter cable then as it would be a liability and people would report blown fuses or fires and the other wiring looks like it might be too high a gauge too for 37A.
It would still be worth $5 or more after rebates but with much greater limitations on what you can power with it.
