Mwave has the Duracell DS10R1i 1,000 Watt 63cc 2-Stroke Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator for $210 + $5 shipping = $215 shipped. Features 5 hours runtime at 1/2 load, quiet 62-db and a 2 year warranty.
Weak output? Really?? That's a little more then 8amps at 120vac. Not sure what laptop your using but most laptop power adapters are between .5-1.5 amps ac draw peak, so that would be 10 laptops you could run from this, or a desktop with LCD monitor, etc. $200 for 8amps of clean (inverter) power is not a bad deal.
Quality/longevity of the item is another story, but I can't speak either way to that.
The east coast was hammered with a 1-2 punch from Irene and then the freak snow storm in October. Many lost power for weeks in each storm. Finding a generator in the east during that time was impossible... lines in stores formed for the CHANCE that a truck was coming with a generator. I ended up finally getting one at 6:01 in the morning at HD and I got a 5500W. Good Generator, but during the second storm I was already wishing that I got one larger.
I have no idea what I would do with a 1000W... meh.
You guys are comparing apples to oranges... your 5500w generator was NOT $200, very large/heavy, very noisy and most likely did not have an inverter (clean/sine-wave power).
This isn't to power up your entire house. It's $200!!! For the price/size/quietness and having 8amps of pure sine-wave output this is a good deal.
This is something I would take to Camping. But!. I have no use for something like this at this time. 215 is a little pricy for me. I seen a 800 watts under 100 bucks.. Yes!. Duracell makes good battery. Don't know if they makes good generators..
What's with all these generators Ben? Is the world coming to an end or something?
Don't think of it as the end turtles, think of it as a new beginning.
That's pretty weak output...Good for powering your laptop.

For $200 I doubt if this thing has an "sine wave inverter" more like "modified square wave"...
Duracell smartpower technology provides clean sine wave power under 3-percent
