Mwave has the Duracell DS10R1i 1,000 Watt 63cc 2-Stroke Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator for $220 + $4 shipping = $224 shipped. Features 5 hours runtime at 1/2 load, quiet 62-db and a 2 year warranty.
Amazon reviews are less than stellar. Seems that when load changes, it takes the generator a while to figure it out, and in the meantime voltage fluctuates. If you're really looking for a generator, there are 3000W units on Amazon for about $100 more.
I looked into getting a generator for emergency use, and decided that the emergency will probably come from me burning my house down due to having tens of gallons of highly inflammable liquid near my house. And you need to swap the gas out regularly too (use it in your car and refill with fresh gas) because it goes bad after some time even with additives.
Best backup for your home would run on NG assuming you have it available. Dual fuel would be nice. If you had diesel vehicles you could get a bulk tank and buy fuel from a distributor and that would ensure it stays fresh. This is all major league and not some crappy 1000w situation. In any case skip the 2 stroke since they use more fuel and are smokey.

Sorry Barbarossa, those two statements are incompatible. 2-stroke engines do NOT have Over Head Valves.
You failed engine 101.

Two-stroke normally means you're mixing gas and oil... for a few bucks more, you can get one that takes straight gas and will mix in the oil itself.
