I picked up one of these a month or so ago. It certainly isn't the fanciest piece of equipment, but it gets the job done. I've got 25 GB of video shot at 720P during a two week vacation using this device. Had one time it had some sort of hiccup and I had to pull the battery to reset it. Other than that, it performed flawlessly. While I'm mentioning the battery, it uses a pretty standard battery that can be picked up for under $5 on ebay and the like. If you need all the bells and whistles, look elsewhere. If you just need a basic video camera for an inexpensive price, this is worth considering. The fact it records in HD is a bonus.

I've been looking for something like this for a present for my parents but from a more recognizeable brand. For warranty and service reasons. Anyone have any suggestions?

32MB High Definition Flash Memory. Wow, now that's a lot of storage. I should be able to capture a whole 10 seconds of HD video with that much storage. *sarcasm

#3, try the Sanyo Xacti. They have a 720p model for around $200 that is a fairly good performer. All of the inexpensive models are fairly awful in low/ambient interior light, though. Keep that in mind when buying one; they're only good for outdoors filming.
