#1, please explain. I want to get a HD TV around 36 to 40 inches diagonal and need advice. I just read an article on CNET on buying a HD TV and they said that unless you are watching a Blue Ray DVD (which I don't own and don't need - I just want to watch HD TV) or playing video games or using your PC with it, 720p will look just as good as 1080p. Obviously, I need to look at them in a store, but I want to go there armed with information. I do know not to buy cables at a brick and mortar store.

on a 32" tv, it is nearly impossible for the eye to detect the difference between 720 and 1080p.
Even at 46" the difference is very difficult to detect. I challenge many people to tell me which feed they are watching. I haven't seen anyone get the answer correct.
The only time the difference is clear is when a computer desktop is displayed.

thanks #4. I do plan on hooking up my computer to a new TV eventually. good to know that I can rule out 720p.
