Can someone figure out why the prices of these things are going up? A few years ago, no-name portable dvd players were $79 bucks. I figured by now, they would be like $39 bucks. Why is this pos $120??
I would have thought similarly, but instead of lowering the price they've been increasing the screen size. You can still get the 7" screen models for around $79, but I don't expect to see any under $50 that'd be worth having.

Somebody is unloading a bunch of the older 7" screen versions on eBay for as little as $40 with shipping, but you don't get a battery with the unit.

Every now and then I think one of these would be fun, but then I think why not just put that money into a laptop instead.
#1 the prices have gone down substantially. One of my crazy co-workers bought a Panasonic portable DVD player for around $1000 back in 1999. He used to bring it to work and watch DVDs. Did I mention he was insane?
