I don't have this particular model, but I have a 5 or 6 year old Dyson that still works great.
How do I become a vacuum afficionado?
I ordered this model from woot and it vacuumed well, but would make a terrible ratcheting noise if you got it close to the bottom of the couch or anything like that. When I talked to Dyson it didn't sound like a new problem either. They had me removing gaskets from the underside of the vacuum, but that didn't stop the noise. We returned it to woot.
Consumer Reports consistently ranks other vacuum brands higher than Dyson. There also seems to be a never ending supply of "factory reconditioned" product out there, which would tend to indicate a high degree of product failure. And yet when you hear from Dyson owners in the forums, they generally love their vacuums. Makes me wonder if Dyson doesn't staff employees to monitor Net forums?
Got to get the Dyson Ball. No lost of suction they say and it glides around carpet like none other. It's also really small and handy.
I own this vacuum, and I like it quite a lot. The chore is easier when you can see all the crap you're putting into the transparent bagless cannister. Really makes you know you're doing something useful.
The noise #3 refers to is a clutch on the agitator, so that when it sucks in something that would tangle it up, it just stops spinning instead of burning the motor out or having a tug-of-war with whatever is caught up. If he had turned the setting to floors (instead of carpets) for that job, he would not have gotten the noise.
True #4 that other vacuums rate better, but Dyson owners love their vacuums, they always have high customer reviews.
Final point, I lost a rubber washer and called Dyson for a replacement. The part would have cost less than the shipping fee, so they just sent it to me no charge at all.
once and awhile woot will sell dysons for cheaper. and only $5 shipping, plus if u live in texas add the code TAXSUCKS and there is no tax charged
Do roombas ever come up? I would like one but don't know anything about them.
