These jewels are always rated badly and have a very high return rate. Stupid people and their money will soon be apart...
Big lots will have these refurbed as well for under $200 at times. Try there for an easy return if you don't like it.
The refurbs work great, if you buy new then yes you have a good chance of having a problem. If you use this it is probably one of the best vacuums out right now but you will find ways this can be improved right away. Especially for the price. I paid $205 around 8 months ago.
So who buys this POS? Professional housekeepers or bored stay at home moms?
I'd do the Friends with Benfits with Mila Kunis.
