This is the company that has started assembling the 46 inch and up units in the USA. Even though at this time the smaller sets are still imported, it might give you a warm fuzzy knowing you would be helping a company that is trying to move TV production back here. Larger sets are being assembled in a suburb of Detroit, with plans to ad more assembly lines as demand grows.
American built = PATHETIC build quality. Yeah, I really want my TV made like a Ford or Chrysler. Then the TV companies will need a bail out. This country hasn't made anything good in decades.
^ Depends on what you compare against. Stuff like this is usually made overseas by overworked grunt laborers with peanut wages, not highly skilled craftsmen.
Your automobiles example is a poor one though, years ago foreign companies made vehicles at very little profit and even at a loss just to establish a market demand in the US, while in more recent years American automobiles have been far more competitive except for the factor of union retirement entitlement overhead.
